• BOOST Thyroid was an app to help with Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism

  • I reported to the founder CEO and worked closely with her – she’s a brilliant doctor who also suffers from the autoimmune condition

  • I wore many hats at this small startup, it was here where I first got involved in product

Copywriter (website tag line)

  • Focus on underactive thyroid conditions

    • Acknowledge this specific audience, while clarifying from the get-go that this, unfortunately, isn’t the place for people with overactive thyroid conditions

  • Give users hope, let them what the ideal outcome is, acknowledge pain points and solutions

    • It’s proven that tracking with BOOST results in fewer attacks and less time spent with physicians – we’ll give them the help they’ve been looking for

BEFORE

AFTER

Creative lead, copywriter, editor (health articles and newsletters)

  • This COVID work came out shortly after the pandemic started – the CEO was hesitant to publish anything related to the topic because everything was so chaotic at the time

  • But the more research I did, the more I saw how our audience was misinformed and looking for guidance

    • People thought that having an autoimmune disease (specifically Hashimoto’s) meant they were immunocompromised – which was not the case

  • I presented my research and made it clear that we had a responsibility as thought leaders to deliver expert info, she changed her stance and thanked me for advocating for our users

    • We wrote 4 articles, one of which was done with our research partners at the University of Oxford

      1. Hashimoto’s and coronavirus: what we can learn from SARS

      2. Does having Hashimoto’s make you more at risk for getting coronavirus (COVID-19)?

      3. Hashimoto’s and coronavirus: cytokine storm

      4. Hashimoto's diet: tips for self-isolation

  • We had a huge increase in traffic after we published these articles and sent this newsletter, the user feedback was in abundance and overwhelmingly positive

UX writer, content designer (onboarding)

  • Wireframes from our approach to the redesign

  • Having a warm, positive tag line made users feel comforted, welcomed, and inspired

  • Showing the most common difficulties right away helped to build trust

  • We get what they’re going through

  • Having a progress tracker made users feel good about pacing

  • Once they finished answering questions, I made sure we made them feel accomplished and reassured them that they’d done the bulk of this first work

Content strategist, writer, editor, designer (editorial content)

  • Some of the many articles we wrote – which were on the website and in the app

  • The CEO and I alternated in taking the lead on writing each article

  • Our strategy and categories were informed by thorough qualitative and quantitative research
